My ten year old daughter asked, "Mom, can we build a miniature doll house?" I said, "Sure, some day." Cassy quizzed me, "When will it be some day?"
We all do it. Put off learning something new or doing something we have always wanted to experience. We tell ourselves ...
Some day... I will find the time to quilt, cross stitch, scrapbook, or decorate cakes.
Some day... I would like to learn how to golf, down hill ski, shoot pool, or play the harmonica.
Some day... it would be thrilling to run in a marathon, go white water rafting, catch a fish, or drive an eighteen-wheeler.
Some day... it would be fun to ride a horse, take up bird watching, change my hair color, or milk a cow.
Some day... I might attend a class for digital photography, computer training, drawing, or get a tattoo.
Some day... I hope to write a book, take voice lessons, audition for a part in a play, or learn how to belly dance.
"When will it be some day?" Cassy's innocent, but painfully honest question triggered a deep realization within me. The miniature dollhouse we built together, eleven years ago, reminds me that unless we decide to make it happen, some day remains barely out of our reach, until it disappears. If you are putting off doing something you desire, make a point to do it this year, instead of waiting until some day.
Lois McElravy, Lessons from Lois, works with individuals and organizations who want to learn how to effectively use humor, so they can handle the demands and pressures of work and home, maintain a flexible perspective, produce positive outcomes, and have more fun.
Learning to laugh and "hangin' on with humor" rescued Lois from the distress and despair surrounding her daily life, and initiated her recovery from a brain injury. Her universal message offers hope, motivates participants to be faithful to do the small things, and conquer their challenges one day at a time.
